Finding a Surgeon

Studies have shown that the surgeon's experience with an operation is the most important factor in having as safe and successful an operation as possible. The best measures of a surgeon's experience are the number of adrenalectomies he or she personally performs every year and his or her personal complication rate. In general, a surgeon should do more than 20 adrenal operations a year to be considered an expert. Patients should not be embarrassed to ask these questions and an experienced surgeon will not be insulted or evasive when asked. As with most things in life, patients should generally avoid surgeons who make wild claims about their experience or make insulting comments about other physicians. A patient's endocrinologist and medical team may be able to provide the name of experienced adrenal surgeons. Our Adrenal Center surgeons are all considered experts at adrenal surgery.
